It's hard to believe
that February is almost over. Time marches on, and scrambling
for the nominations of both parties has become a modern day Oklahoma
Land Rush. As 25, that's right folks, 25 candidates are now in
the running for President. Each one is trying to stake his claim
to a portion of the voting public.
While the debates soar
over who will make the best candidates, we the voters are left
to sort through volumes of background stories, and of course the
inevitable lies, and rumors that spread those lies.
The recent Right Wing
Lie Brigade managed to force the resignation of two of John Edwards'
bloggers. And believe me they were just that, lies. Amanda Marcotte,
blogmaster, and Melissa McEwan blog consultant both resigned within
a day of each other, even after Edwards said he would not fire
them. I was proud of Edwards for standing up for what was right,
whose strong stands against the Iraq war and in favor of a broad
national health insurance plan have made him popular among the
more ideologically committed bloggers and their audiences.
This is the type of
attacks that each of us expects in the upcoming elections, nothing
much has changed except the Karl Rove types are becoming more
prominent online, playing at being the next Rush Limbaugh to the
online world. They select a target and start creating the appearance
of smoke, and with enough smoke, even if imagined by their operatives,
people begin believing there is a fire and before you know it
another progressive is left along the side of the road, as the
right wing agitators gleefully head off in another direction seeking
a new target. Through smoke and mirrors and fear mongering, the
Right Wing Gang in the Whitehouse have managed to bamboozle a
majority of the people over the last few years.
It's time to break
the mirrors and blow away their smoke. Its time to calm the fears
of alleged and manufactured threats. We must each of us take anything
in the mainstream media with a grain of salt. In NM there is a
radio station that refuses to broadcast anything from newswires
or mainstream media that says it is from an undisclosed source,
because the neocons have learned that they can manipulate this
media by planting lies.
Too bad WeDemocrats
can't afford to hire blogmasters like these ladies to head our
Blogger Corps. With the kind of honesty and straight talk they
produce we could make a strong fence to ward off Right Wing attacks.
Without a unified effort we are each individually vulnerable to
these coordinated attacks.
Okay, on to membership,
we now have 2,487 members. Our mailing list now tops 32,000, but
we are pruning it down to eliminate those who are not active in
politics or online activities.
Donations are still
needed to support WeDems and can be made from the main website.
You will notice I am
not including a bunch of links within the body of these weekly
updates, mainly because I want people to go to the website and
to the webzine sites to follow-up on various items. But also because
it takes time to find and link various locations. Without a paid
staff, our core group of volunteers who run WeDems are hard pressed
to find the time to do anything extra.
Norla says she needs
an assistant editor for WE! The People, Allie needs an assistant
to help with various website work, I have an Executive Assistant
in Becky (shucks this gal could run the whole operation), but
she needs help as well. Gary and Larry our National Field Directors
both need help in lots of areas, so please re-examine your lives
and consider volunteering an hour here or there to help these
wonderful hard working people who have only your interest at heart.
